If you are in the dark about your spring break plans you are not alone. Plenty of people are looking to do something different and unique. Why not try fishing in the dark?
In fact, many serious fishing enthusiasts make a regular habit of hitting the lake or river as early as 4:30 a.m. This is the time of the day when the fish are the most active, and when humans are the least active (in most cases).
The second best time to go fishing in the dark is just after sundown. You may want to wait at least until after rush hour traffic disperses from your location before you start, however. Fishing at night would give you even more time than during the day because you might even be able to fish all night if you want to.
Some of the largest fish have been caught in the early morning or early evening hours. Species such as ...are ripe for the "picking" during these times.
In order to make your time in the dark fishing most valuable to you it is important to keep the following in mind: You are most likely going to need a few blankets, because the temperature will drop after the sun goes down or before the sun comes up. You also will need plenty of bait and/or tackle, especially if you are in a remote location.
If you are going to go out on the water it is highly recommended that you have a life preserver. In some areas it is required for you to carry a throw able floating device with you as well. It is also ideal if you carry along an up-to-date fire extinguisher and a horn and signal flare. In fact, these are also required in come cases in certain locations.
One of the challenges of fishing in the dark-even if you have an outdoor light-is being able to see where you are going. It would be to your advantage to try this activity on a well-moonlit night. Furthermore, if you rent or own a cabin deeper in the woods near a more remote body of water that would help too.
Fishing in the dark is said to be a totally different experience than fishing during the daytime. It would be a perfect opportunity for an early spring break trip.
